Why put wheels of different widths
Wide tires are used on sports cars to improve traction, stability and acceleration. In drag racing competitions, this configuration pays off. However, wheels of different widths are now also installed on civil cars.

This is a set of wheels for one car with different profile widths. Racers and street racers call them sparks.
The low profile reduces wheel diameter, increasing torque. This calculation formula is used by many automakers in car brands: BMW, Ford, Porsche (VW group), Lexus (Toyota) with engines from 200 l / s.

There are several key changes after replacing the standard tire kit:
- Fast acceleration

- The quality of the roads. It is advisable to mount tires of different widths on cars that drive in megalopolises with a good roadbed
- The construction of the car. Not every car can be fitted with wide rims and tires. We need a competent selection of the rim diameter and other suspension parameters. You don't need to do it yourself, it is better to order the modernization in a professional workshop, but it's expensive.
- Weight is increasing
- Price. You need to pay several times more for maintenance and changing the tire set in winter / summer in a car service
Should you install wheels of different widths?
Mounting tires of different widths makes sense for cars with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In this case, traction with the road, handling is improved, the braking distance is reduced and there is less slippage when accelerating from a standstill. On the front-wheel drive model, there are fewer qualitative changes: the grip with the coating at the start will become better, the vehicle will be a little more obedient in turns. In any case, such a decision needs to be carefully considered.
