MUSCLE CARS
Muscle cars have a feature that sets them apart from other cars is the engine power.
Usually put the v8 engine.
These cars appeared in 1964 and lasted until 1973. The name "muscle cars" appeared in the late 70's.
Gasoline in the United States at that time was extremely cheap, the environmental movement was in its infancy, there was practically no state regulation in the field of safety and efficiency of vehicles. Power has always attracted car buyers.
Construction
All of them were rear-wheel drive, classic layout. The engines had the simplest design: as a rule, a cast-iron cylinder block, two valves per cylinder driven by pushers, one camshaft in the camber of the cylinder block, carburetor power (usually more than one carburetor was installed - two or three, rarely four, four-chamber carburetors were often used).
For the construction of "muscle cars" used conventional production cars and put engines for "full-size" cars.
The first "muscle car" is considered to be the Pontiac GTO
Habitual image
By the end of the sixties, muscle cars had acquired their own distinctive style. Actually, today it is the cars of these years that are primarily meant, calling the term "musclecarz". The features of their style were: the "Fastback" body (a two-door sedan or coupe with a very smooth or absent transition from the second volume to the third volume) or "Fasttop" (with the roof extended backward), the "Coca-Bottle" sidewall - shaped like a bottle " Coca-Cola ", an aggressive radiator grille (often deeply recessed into the front lining), integrated bumpers, a minimum of chrome decor, imitation of air intakes, chrome wheels.
