Water hammer is a consequence of a situation when water enters the working motor through an air filter. Since the aqua, unlike air, is practically not compressed, even a couple of drops will increase the pressure in the cylinder.
If you fly into a puddle at high speed, the water literally under pressure enters the air filter, and from there into the combustion chamber. The same situation when the puddle is too deep, and the water itself flows through the air filter. This happens more often during floods, when the car is half or even higher in the water.
If crossing the puddle the car suddenly stalled, it is:
- hydraulic shock - if you hear the characteristic sound of the impact
- or water has come into contact with electrical contacts
Do not forget that it is better to brake in front of a puddle. And cross large puddles at a speed not exceeding 10 km / h.
